Ingredients:

  • - 1 cup borax
  • - 1 cup Arm & Hammer washing soap
  • - 1 bar of Zote soap, grated
  • - 1 gallon of very hot water (not boiling)
  • - 4 additional gallons of water

Instructions:

1. Begin by grating the bar of Zote soap. You can use a cheese grater or a food processor to achieve a fine texture. The grated soap will dissolve more easily in water, ensuring a smooth and effective laundry detergent.

2. In a large pot, heat 1 gallon of water until it is very hot but not boiling. You can heat the water on the stovetop or use a kettle.

3. Once the water is hot, carefully pour it into a clean five-gallon bucket. Ensure that the bucket is heat-resistant and large enough to accommodate all the ingredients.

4. Add the grated Zote soap to the hot water in the bucket. Stir the mixture vigorously until the soap is fully dissolved.

5. Next, add the borax and Arm & Hammer washing soap to the bucket. Continue stirring until all the ingredients are well combined.

6. Slowly pour in the remaining 4 gallons of water, stirring continuously to ensure thorough mixing.

7. Once all the ingredients are incorporated, cover the bucket and let the mixture stand overnight. This allows the ingredients to fully dissolve and the soap to thicken.

8. The next day, give the concentrated laundry soap mixture a good stir to ensure it is well mixed.

9. Using a funnel, carefully transfer the concentrated laundry soap into smaller jugs or containers for easier handling and storage. Make sure the containers are clean and airtight.

10. Label the containers with the date and name of the detergent for future reference.

Usage:

To use the homemade laundry soap, simply measure out the desired amount for each load of laundry. Start with approximately 1/4 cup for regular loads and adjust as needed based on the size and dirtiness of the laundry.

Tips:

- For added fragrance, you can incorporate a few drops of essential oils such as lavender or lemon into the mixture during step 4. This will give your laundry a pleasant scent without the need for artificial fragrances.

- Shake the container before each use as the ingredients may separate over time. This helps ensure that the soap is evenly distributed.

- This concentrated laundry soap is suitable for both standard and high-efficiency (HE) washing machines.

By creating your own concentrated homemade laundry soap, you not only have a powerful and effective cleaning solution but also contribute to a more sustainable and budget-friendly lifestyle.

With just a few simple ingredients, you can make a significant amount of laundry detergent that will last you a long time. Embrace the satisfaction of making your own cleaning products, reducing waste, and taking control of the substances you use in your home. Give this homemade laundry soap recipe a try and enjoy the benefits of a clean and eco-friendly laundry routine.
