Recipe: Freezing Avocado

Ingredients:

  • - Ripe avocados
Equipment:

  • - Small cookie scoop or spoon
  • - Gallon-sized ziplock bags

Instructions:

1. Preparing the Avocados:

   - Choose ripe avocados that are at their peak of freshness. They should give slightly to gentle pressure when squeezed.

   - Cut each avocado in half lengthwise and remove the pit.

   - Scoop out the avocado flesh using a small cookie scoop or spoon. If desired, you can mash the avocado slightly with a fork to achieve a smoother texture.

2. Freezing the Avocado:

   - Arrange the scooped avocado portions on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Make sure they are not touching each other.

   - Place the baking sheet with the avocado portions in the freezer and let them freeze for a few hours until they set up firm.

3. Storing the Frozen Avocado:

   - Once the avocado portions are frozen, transfer them to a gallon-sized ziplock bag.

   - Press out any excess air from the bag and seal it tightly.

4. Thawing and Using Frozen Avocado:

   - When you're ready to use the frozen avocado, remove the desired amount from the ziplock bag.

   - Thaw the avocado by letting it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes or defrost it in the refrigerator overnight.

   - Once thawed, the avocado will have a texture similar to freshly mashed avocado. Use it in your favorite recipes, such as guacamole, spreads, dressings, or as a topping for toast.

Freezing avocados opens up a world of possibilities for preserving and enjoying this beloved fruit without the worry of browning or waste.

By following the simple steps outlined in this article, you can stockpile perfectly preserved avocados that retain their vibrant green color and creamy texture.
